Prosthesis in this heat

This is my second summer with a prosthesis and as we already had two heat waves , I’ve abandoned my nhs one for now.

I do have the soft covers but as a busty lady my prosthesis is huge , I was getting a rash , so I’ve started using a boost prosthesis , they are around £70 but fantastic, light weight with a cute cut out pattern and waterproof . I put some extra pads in my bra as the boost isn’t quite my size but no one notices and it’s soo much nicer in the hot weather .

I too would have liked the other one gone but was refused and two years down the line I can’t be bothered with more surgery x

There are a few posts about the Boost prosthetics on the Mastectomy - flat and fabulous or reconstruction topic. Search for Boost in the search at the top to see them.

Me and a couple of other users sent them back as the triangle shape wasn’t for us or they weren’t heavy enough or just felt wrong. Others loved them. The good thing is, you can send them back and it’s all quick and easy to do.

@Gelbel Yes agree , my boost is not for me on a day to day basis as my prosthesis is the same weight as my removed breast- They don’t do them for bigger boobs either and definitely agree about the triangle shape , I think they do a different shaped one now . It’s been useful in the heatwave though as I can’t get away with no boob as it’s too obvious

Hello Ladies

I tend to wear my Knitted Knockers, when I go out during hot weather. I have a good, non wired pocketed bra, that holds the prosthetic in place. Im not fussed about its ripples and bumps, thats the lovely thing about KKs. They are kind to our skin. They are beautifully hand knitted with love. That means a lot to me.

I wore my softie for ages after surgery. My scar was too tender for anything else. So a KK is a step up from that.

I find them comfortable, and they dont aggravate scars/seromas/swellings..I had a seroma for weeks after the drain was removed. Its only just gone, since February. So I didnt want anything hard, sweaty, impractical. Especially in hot weather.

There are disadvantages to all prosthetics. Sadly they are not our own breasts.:heart::heart:. They will never be perfect.

But the more variety of prosthetics we have, the more we can pick and choose for different occasions/heat levels. Ive still got my softie. I will still use it.

I also have a Bamboo Front Fastener Cancer Research Bra. They are post surgery bras, but the beauty of these is they are ‘flat’ and "stretch” according to boob/prosthetics.

If I want to go flat in hot weather/anytime I like, these are great as they dont have an annoying “cup” that needs filling.

They are not very supportive, which I like, they are comfortable. But prosthetics can be a bit lopsided in them because of that. But at 63 I’m happy to just go with the flow..

When I go flat, I do use a looser top, or a large scarf to “fill the gap”. My remaining breast is DD. So there is a noticeable difference . But I blend how I want, to feel confident.

So, my advice for hot weather is….have a variety of options. Prosthetics, bras, tops, that allow you to mix and match depending on the heat, how you feel on the day.

Most days I am flat and proud. Other days I may want to have two breasts to suit certain clothes. Both are fine. :people_hugging::flexed_biceps::bouquet::heart:

My other strategy in hot weather is, “stay in the shade” or find air-con buildings …supermarkets are bliss :joy:…Go out earlier/later.

Im having chemo, so the thought of going anywhere hot is a living nightmare. But being sensible and kind to myself has made hot days manageable.:heart::heart:

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but have you all tried those lightweight, breathable prosthesis covers that some users talk about? I heard they can help with the heat, and I’m curious if anyone has experience with them. Also, any updates on new products or solutions to stay comfy during warmer months? Hi @bicotiwi

I always use a cover - M&S (annoyingly now only available in packs of white, beige and black rather than 3 beige), Amazon or I bought some thin t-shirt material to knock up my own, which means I can put the opening where I want - not sewn since 12 years old at a school. Even in the depths of winter - can’t stand the feel of warm silicone against my chest.

Hi all, I was browsing through my Facebook which obviously has a very breast cancer heavy algorithm at the moment and it suggested a breast prosthesis substitute to me. It was from a company called Boost. Instead of a solid boob it looked more like a mesh which you can see-through.

Just wanted to share for anyone looking for an alternative as they look quite good
