Put it out of my mind for too long, now I can't stop thinking about it

Hi,
Just been reading most of the threads, seems really friendly in here so thought people might be able to help.

I think I’ve been a bit silly, I found a small lump in my lower right breast around 6 months ago and didn’t go to see my GP until yesterday. I kept putting it out of my mind, telling myself it was nothing and it would go away.
She said it might be a cyst or fat (i don’t have a lot of fat in my breasts, i’m quite small there!) or something but she wasn’t sure, but she also said she wasn’t sure if the lump was in my breast tissue or in the layers inbetween?? Not too sure what she meant by that. Has anyone heard of something like this before?

I’ve not long turned 26 so I know i’m statistically less likly to have C, and that most lumps turn out to be benign, but now i’m worried i’ve left it too long, didn’t think about it before, stupid I know, now I can’t stop thinking about it!

I’ve been referred to a surgeon, that is normal isn’t it? Don’t know when my appt. will be, or if its an urgent referral or not, wish I did!

Also my mum has had/still got lots of cysts, are they heridatary too?

Hi Helen and welcome to the forums.

Hi Lucy

Try not to think of “have I left it too long” theres no point worrying about something already done just keep your mind on the here and now. You are getting you lump looked at now and thats the main thing. I’m sure that you will get lots of advice here as I know everyone is very helpful. Thinking of you and hope all goes well with your appointment.

best to get it checked out but nine out of ten lumps are benign

I hope yours is

Lucy,

Please try not to worry, easier said than done, I know! I had chronic breast pain and was referred to the clinic. I waited 8 months for an appointment then my Mum took ill and had to have major surgery on the day of my appointment. I cancelled my appointment and stupidly didn’t make another one. 3 years later I found a lump in the painful breast. I blamed myself so much for not going to the clinic before. However the surgeon was amazing and said I mustn’t think like that. The lump was removed and was benign. I’ve got another one now, in the other breast which I’m told is a benign fibroadenoma. It’s coming out though, for peace of mind.
Please keep us up to date with how you get on.

Tx

Sorry, I meant Helen! Got mixed up!
