Hi All
I posted yesterday about my results which I thought were very good. I have had a thought that wont go away so wondered if anyone could help. My cancer was a Grade 3, all removed with clear margins, no lymph node involvement. Anyone know if because it was a 3 and not a 1 or 2 if it has an more serious implications and my HER result was not showing positive or negative, is that normal.

Hi Angie55
I am grade 3 and as my bcn explained to me it means that the cells are faster growing. However she did say that due to it being a grade 3 chemo will be required. I do have some node involvement but the way she explained if I remember correctly is, grade 3 alone is chemo, grade 3 with node involvement stronger chemo possibly Tac. I am fairly new to this and some things I am told does go over my head but sure this is how she explained it. Maybe someone with more experience may know more… However I also think it depends on where we are treated. I’m been treated on Doncaster. With Her2 results are the inconclusive or not yet returned as my bcn said this test can take a while.
Take care

Hey Angie55
Just looked at your other posts and can see you have already been told no chemo, sorry about post beneath I must have been mistaken. I think possibly I may have been told this as im only 37. Great news if you dont require it as it scares me more than the surgery which is pretty hard!!
Again sorry glad I checked your posts!!
Take care

Hi Angie, the HER2 level is graded 0 to 3 if the test comes back HER2+ (one cross) it means normal levels of HER2 and is classed as negative, HER2++ means it is moderate and HER2+++ means it has higher than normal levels and is positive and Herceptin will be needed. For those who’s test comes back ++ (moderate) then it should be sent for another test called a FISH test and this will show for definite if Herceptin is needed. It’s either negative or positive no inbetween. My result was ++ and the FISH test came back negative. I would ask your Oncologist about this as if the FISH test is positive and Herceptin is required then as far as I know chemo will be needed too as Herceptin can only be given with chemo. Unless things have changed in the last 6 years since I was diagnosed. Grade 3 used to always be offered chemo but think that could of changed now. I think it depends on many things ie age, tumour size, node involvement and if vascular invasion is present. All the best xx
Thanks for all replies. I don’t understand the Her 2 receptor as the box for negative/positive is un ticked. Don’t know if this Is an error by the consultant.
