Hi all,
I am having an mx on 8 th Nov, followed by chemo and rads. However, my employer only pays ssp. I am hoping to be able to work for at least one week out of 3 during treatment but because ssp is not paid for the first 4 days of absence I will dddatgtdjw be penalised for the days I have off for treatment. Has anyone found a way round this? I understand the waiting days r a deterrent to people pulling a sicky but I hardly think it fair in this case. Any ideas ?
Thanks Herbi
A case of take it or leave it?
Employers need to fill vacancies regardless and if you claim ssp you claim it as a block, not payg. I took 27 weeks which is the maximum.
Hi Herbi
If you are off sick for the same illness you wont have to wait the four days it’s called Linking SSP, you may have to be careful when you work but you should be able to. Have a look at the gov website below
direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Illorinjured/DG_175843
Linking with a previous period of SSP
If you have received SSP for a previous period of illness within the last eight weeks, your new period of illness may link to this. For periods of illness to link, you must have been sick for at least four days in a row in the second period for this to be treated as one continuous period. SSP will be paid for the new period, without you having to serve waiting days.
Hope it helps
