questions for specialist

Hi,

my mums breast cancer has come back after several years, the doctor has told her to make a list of questions to ask the specialist when she sees them.  Does anyone have any advice on what she should ask the specialist,  as we’re finding it hard to think straight?

thanks.

Dear bev4

You might also find it helpful to talk things over with one of our Helpline staff.  They can offer practical information and emotional support.  They will be open again tomorrow.  (Opening times are 9-5 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays).  The number is 0808 800 6000

I’m so sorry to hear your mum has BC again. One question I would ask, is it a recurrence of the same cancer or a new primary? I don’t know the details of her first cancer, but if there was no lymph nodes affected, are there any this time. If it is a recurrence, then it should have the same receptors as the first one (hormones or HER2) If not, this might be a sign that it is a new primary. Obviously you will both want to know what her treatment plan will include this time. Did she need chemo first time? Will she need it again? Hope these suggestions put more ideas for questions in your minds.

I’m not surprised you are finding it hard to think straight. Sending hugs and best wishes.
