Questions!!!

Hi, I got diagnosed last week. I’ve heard folk refer to DCIS. I’ve not been told which type go cancer I’ve got, do you normally find that out after surgery? I know it’s hormone + but apart from that nothing else. I go for my WLE and SN 13 August.

I know everyone is different but can anyone give me an idea of recovery time after the op, and how long I would expect to be off work?

Thanks for reading my post xxx

Hi Murphy

How was the diagnosis made?

I would of thought that if you know that it is hormone positive then you would also know what type of cancer  it is. Maybe get in touch with your bcn?

As far as recovery time is concerned, as you say we are all different but as an example, I also had wle and snb and was off work for two weeks but still was not 100 per cent when I went  back, so maybe should have taken longer. It’s really important to do the exercises they give you afterwards.

All the  best

Mary

Hi Mary, thank you so much for getting back to me. I was diagnosed after a routine mammogram. I was recalled and had another mammogram, scan and biopsy. I then received the result last Monday. I didn’t know what questions to ask, tbh I didn’t even know there were different types of breast cancer, but was defo told it was hormone +. After my op I’ve to start taking tamoxifen and get radiotherapy for 3 weeks.

Yes I think I might phone the nurse and ask. Silly question but is it “better” to have one type than the other. I’ve been reading but getting a bit confused :frowning: until this time last week I didn’t know hee haw about BC!!

Love xx

Sounds like you may be her2pos as you will be going on tamoxifen but its best you ask…Do alot kf digging because thats how you get your answers , ask them lots . I was never told I was her2 pos I found out because of a trial they wanted me to take part in…I read about the trial and found out for myself.

Thanks for all your replies. I phoned my BCN last week but unfortunately she is on holiday. Her colleague said she didn’t have any info about me apart from my appointments, and anyway she wouldn’t discuss over the phone. I’ve got an appointment with my GP this coming Wednesday so I’ll ask him if he knows anything further.

It’s Now 12 days since I’ve been diagnosed and still can’t believe it’s all happening. I’m getting a bit more anxious as time is going on. I’m not sleeping as well as I usually do and concentration at work is non existent. It’s taking me hours to do something it normally took 5 minutes to do. It’s on my mind 24/7 xxxx

Hi, I was at my GP today and he gave me a copy of the letter from the breast clinic. I am still confused though over what type of cancer I have. I wonder if anyone can shed any light?

There is a part in the letter that says “this was biopsied and clipped and has shown in situ and invasive carcinoma.” Does this mean its a Carcinoma in situ (DCIS) or does it mean it’s an invasive breast cancer? I have read these are two completely different things.

It also says “she is ER/PR positive.” Does this mean I am positive to both estrogen and progesterone?

If anyone can help with what it means I would be very grateful

Best wishes xxxxx
