racket sports?

racket sports?

racket sports? I wonder if anyone could help? I am considering playing badminton with my daughter but just wondering if racket sports after mastectomy and node clearance on my racket hand side will be ok. I am thinking about the risk of lymphoedema.
Thanks Libby

Raquet sports Libby

Go for it! Always been a bit of a raquet (badminton and tennis) fan so when I made a recovery after lumpectomy and lymphnode removal on my right side in 1995, I was determined to get back as soon as possible. The stamina had gone but the thrill of the game made me determined to get fitter and get back to normal.
While playing I came across other girls in the same boat and they were back playing as soon as possible. I’m sure the excercise and company is good for you. I didn’t have probs with lymphodema, well no one told me about what not to do then so I just did what I felt was right.
11years down the line and following a local recurrance and a right mastecomy in September and RADs in December, I have been encouraged by my oncologist to get back and start knocking up. Tonight will be the first time since surgery.

Best advice is take it steady and stop when you feel you’ve done enough.

Jules

OK can’t spell raquet!! Go for it Jules, what an inspiration. I really don’t want to make myself too precious, but after finishing chemo it’s something I am concious of and determined not to do. I have a young family and want to enjoy everyday.Having a local recurrance after all this time must be hard to get your head round. I send you my best wishes and hope you made it clear in your knock around tonight…you’ll be back! So looks like it’s a game of badminton for me, thanks for your encouragement.
Take care, Libby
