Radio after chemo

I have my last chemo next Wed and then planning meeting for Radio on 3rd Aug wondering how long people have had to wait from planning meeting to starting Radio  i guess its different for all areas.

Also side effects you experianced i have 3 weeks 5 days a week so 15 sessions, i am currently moisturising 3 times a day when remember.

Hoping i get a few weeks of the summer holidays to enjoy with the children ages 7yr and 4yrs.

Thanks

Hi there

My planning appoinment was on a Friday……it took around an hour to have the scans and all the measurements taken….I declined the blue tattoos…… so just had marker pen covered with a dressing……my first rads appointment was on the following Wednesday….I, like you had 3 weeks….so I finished on a Tuesday……I had a check up appointment each week and was weighed each week ( really important not to gain or lose weight in those 3 weeks I was told) ….li got to choose morning or afternoon appointments ….then I was given an appointments letter at my first appointment with all 15 times……they were all between 0930 and 11am…. I was fine with this as I was off sick from work….our hospital provide taxis or volunteer drivers for all rads patients, it is not means tested, so I had door to door service for all my appointments including the planning appointment…which I appreciated.  The appointments themselves took around 10 to 15 minutes……on the first day I was provided with a massive tub of cream ……I used it once but didn’t like the sensation on my skin……I would have used something else if needed though ( people will likely come along with recommendations) ……I didn’t get any burning to my breast area ( I had my clavicle area zapped as well)… or any tenderness ….my breast felt the same at the beginning as the end…although others will have had different experiences….so you just never really know……I got tired towards the end….and about 2-3 weeks after finishing I was hit with a tsunami of fatigue….far worse than when I was having chemo….then slowly I got my mojo back….went back to work about 6 weeks after finishing rads……still very fatigued….really needed the phased return….I hope all goes well for you…you are much younger than me ( I’m 57 now) so hopefully will recover quicker….take good care

Hi

i had to wait 6 weeks as I had a mastectomy. I too have 15 sessions and today I had number 10 and so far I don’t really feel any different. My oncologist said that tiredness could kick in two weeks after. I think one of the main things you can get is a bit of soreness to the skin, so far I’ve moisturised and have no soreness so hope it continues. I wish you all the best.

Hi just been reading your post and replies with interest as I will be finishing my treatment with radiotherapy at end of August. Will I be able to drive myself to the appointments? When I was on chemo I didn’t drive between day 1 and 14 as didn’t feel up to it.
