Thought id start a new post, as there doesnt seem to be much info on this and only see a couple of mentions about RFA.
After 3 years of trying to get RFA ive managed to get it, to my liver tumours (3 no.) only had it last monday so still early days, am in bit of pain from shoulder pain! side effect of that area being messed about with. hopin it will ease soon. But the initial scan the day after! the treatment indicated a good response
As it went so well im booked in soon to have 2 lung tumours done in one lung and 1 in the other lung.
So fingers crossed the lungs rfa will be good as well.
So wondering who else has managed to get this treatment, and on the NHS !!?? and also to make everyone aware about it

Glad you started this thread as I have only just heard of this treatment and haven’t had a chance to ask my onc about it. Can I ask what other treatment you had before the RFA? I have liver tumours that have responded to chemo and are continuing to shrink with letrazole. However I’m keen to know if this is an option for me in the future.

Thank you for your post, i was diagnosed with liver mets this dec , i started capecitabine and had a great response then after 4 cycles it stopped working i saw my oncologist friday and pushed for rfa and he was reluctant to take it any further as he said it wont benefit me, i cannot accept this and i am seeing my doc in the morning to see if he will refer me to a liver specialist i have 3 tumours on my liver i would gladly welcome any advice you can give me please , where did you have it done at ? i keenly await your response

Thanks for the thread. Only posted a few weeks ago asking info regarding RFA because it was offered to me. I’m with private, but it is going to be done on the NHS anyway.
I was dx with liver mets mid April and is now due to have my 3rd FEC on Wed. RFA will be carried out after 6x or 8x FEC and radio to breast. So, still a long way to go till I can have RFA, but it’s def on the cards. Probably will ask more questions about it near to the time.
hi just got back from drs he is referring me to a liver specialist he is enquiring at christies ? is there anybody else looked into this who isnt in the london area

I know very little about it. But having had some shrinkage on the latest rounds of chemo, with all three of the liver mets shrinking after three cycles, and then again after the sixth cyle of carboplatin, I’m hoping that I could now become a candidate. Was interested to see it can be done in Bristol (I live near Exeter). I’ll be watching this thread with interest-and wish you all the very best of luck with this therapy.

Don’t know if this helps but it does appear that this type of treatment is now being looked at in more depth with a report due later this year.

Hi Everyone, I also have liver mets and asked my ONC the last time I saw him about RFA, but like Galen I was told it wouldn’t benefit me and I also don’t accept this. Just to say, ive had my check up since my rfa in May/June and the good news is its worked and I also have no new tumours in my lungs and liver. I stopped Xeloda chemo in June and since been on Letrozole hormone tablet. Which in itself is amazing as in June 2009 I was told Id be on chemo for life.
I have slight progression in my lower spine, but hope that will just be a change of bone medication will knw more next week.
I feel so lucky to have been able to have RFA as it really has given me a new lease of life! and im loving it!
So can this RFA treat lung mets as well?? only I have mets on both lungs at dx it was multiple and now they have told me that after chemo and surgery the lump in my breast gone and lymph nodes gone, now the lung mets are classed as tiny and since the june ct scan my latest one shows that the stuff on my lungs is stable. So stable and tiny are words I am very very pleased with but NED would be better, I dont know if this treatment would benefit me or whether I have too many mets on the lungs for them to be able to do the RFA, will ask next time I go to the Oncs. This is all such a huge learning curve and this RFA is new to me is this the same as Cyberknife and Gammaknife??? Just realised it is cyberknife.
