Radiotherapy after Mastectomy

Hi

can anyone help me?  I was diagnosed with Grade 2 lobula breast cancer.  The consultant initially thought the tumour was around 8/9 cm and no lymph node involvement.  After having a mastectomy the pathology report came back  and had been downgraded to grade 1, the tumour was also smaller 4.2cm but it showed the remainder was DCIS.  Also no lymph node involvement.  After having their MDT meeting they recommended Tamoxifen as I was oestrogen receptor positive but they were unsure as to whether radiotherapy will benefit me at all.  When I saw the oncologist last week he is suggesting I have it but my concern is are they over treating me?  I know they’re concerned on a rogue cancer cell still lurking but I’m also concerned with the side effects of radiotherapy and if I need it.   My Nottingham test is 2.84 and I’m considered low risk.  What does anyone think?  Thanks in advance xx

Hi Valad,

if it were me in your position i would have the radiotherapy.

i had 15 sessions back in 2017 for Triple negative breast cancer and to be honest it was all ok.

i know we all have different skin but i had very little reaction.  Just some pinkness towards the end on the area and itchy nipple for 4/5 Days.

If you decide to go ahead and you have questions pls feel free to ask or go onto the Radiotherapy Thread.    Good luck with whatever you decide. ?

Hi Valad, it’s a very personal decision, isn’t it. I just took everything that was offered as I wanted to be sure that I covered all bases. My Onco called it using belts and braces. Made me ? . The rads procedures were a piece of cake, but there are a few long term effects, such as sensitivity to sun and a few aches and pains. I thought it was well worth it for peace of mind. Good luck with your decision. X
