Hi ad1995,
Thanks for your post asking about resuming hair colour, eye lash and eyebrow appointments after completing your chemotherapy and before starting your radiotherapy. It’s understandable that you want to cheer yourself up after going through chemotherapy.
You don’t mention whether you used scalp cooling, or the extent of your hair loss from treatment, but many people who have hair loss from chemotherapy treatment notice their hair starts to grow back once treatment is completed. The rate of growth will vary from person to person and body hair can grow back faster or slower than the hair on your head.
After treatment finishes, some women prefer to use mild shampoos, conditioners, and hair products to reduce the risk of hair breaking. It’s often best to wait until your hair is longer and your hair and scalp are in good condition before applying permanent hair colour. Although there is limited research in this area Cancer Hair Care recommend you allow at least an inch (2.5cm) of hair to grow before colouring it, so you can be sure the hair is of a good quality.
Our booklet breast cancer and hair loss has further information about colouring your hair and also information on eyelash and eyebrow treatment’s that you may find helpful.
There are number of organisations, such as Cancer Hair Care, my new hair and Look Good Feel Better who offer specific support to women with questions around hair and beauty related to cancer treatment that you might find helpful.
Your breast care nurse or treatment team may also be able to offer further advise and signpost you to local services in your area.
You may also like to see what other women have tried by looking at the chemotherapy thread on the Forum.
We have a range of services that can help support someone who is going through treatment. Each person will find their own way of dealing with the impact of treatments, but it can be helpful to talk to others who have been through the same experience.
