Radiotherapy burn - How to treat.

Hi I finished 20 fractions (15/5) 18th Aug and am suffering a worsening under breast burn. I have been advised by radiographers that the effects continue to develop up to 10 days after the last treatment and to avoid any creams other than E45. However as skin had already split I was given Nu-Gel which is not helping. What advice can you give me ? L x

Hi, I’m sorry to read about your burn.  I was advised to use a cream called Biafine.  It is especially prescpribed for radiation therapy and for first and second degree burns.  It should be applied generosly three to four times a day but never at least four hours before your rediation session.  Check with your doctor and see what he has to say.

Access this link for information about the cream drugs.com/cdi/biafine-emulsion.html.

"Biafine emulsion is used for:

Treating minor cuts, burns (including sunburns), and wounds; pressure sores; skin ulcers; skin graft or donor sites; or skin inflammation caused by radiation treatment. It may also be used for other skin conditions as determined by your doctor."

Good luck.

Hi project kylie

I have the same split skin under the breast and was prescribed fusibet cream …improving slowly

I only use aqueous cream to wash and moisturise…although not under the sore breast I was told

Thanks, it’s day 7 post last radiotherapy and the worst seems to be over, Mepilex dressings have been great, I’m itchy now and the wound is drier both of which are good signs x

Hi Sorry to hear about your burn. I too was badly burned under breast and armpit during my treatment Was given Mepilex dressings and aquaeous gel.which did not help at all . Gp gave me duoderm thin dressings. Burns healed within a week Only thing is these can only be used after radiation therapy finishes as they are best left on for a few days at a time Good luck and best wishes xx

Hi, sorry to hear about your burns. I too had under breast and armpit burns. Started on day 3 of 20, skin broke. None of the creams helped but as soon as I finished radiotherapy I was prescribes ‘flamazine’ cream. It was amazing! Worked quickly and was a great relief. Cath
