Radiotherapy going on and on after treatment

I finished 15 sessions of radiotherapy 4 weeks ago. My skin is just starting to blister in the inside crease of my old reconstruction. Ive been using Aveeno but the skin is definitely more angry with each day. How long has this gone on for with anyone else? Im thinking maybe i should ring radiotherapy nurse rather than BCN. Has anyone had it carry on developing this long? They said it would last for about 2 weeks originally xx

Dear Susynight, well done for getting this far with your treatment, unfortunately I also had 15 sessions of radiotherapy, like you very sore and uncomfortable, call you breast cancer team they should have some advice to offer, I also used Aveeno cream.

Wishing you well, with lots of love Tili :rainbow::folded_hands::rainbow::folded_hands:

Maybe ring BC nurse or GP for some advice? I had skin breakdown in crease under boob too and it got infected and needed antibiotic cream prescribed by GP.

MooGoo cream is amazing for radiotherapy. I used it throughout and didn’t get any skin effects. No redness no itching no blistering. It’s really awesome stuff. They do an oncology pack. Please do get some.

My boob was red and swollen for several months and the skin on my nipple and areola peeled / flaked off though there was no actual breakdown or blistering . It’s important that you get in touch with your BCN or Radiotherapy Nurse if you have one as with the skin being broken you’re at risk of getting an infection and good as Aveeno is I think you will need something else and your team should probably decide what that should be.

I didn’t contact anyone about my boob because after about 6 weeks I could see a slight gradual improvement but when I went to Breast Clinic about something else my BCN was concerned about the redness and swelling . Even if you don’t need anything more for your breast it would be good to be on their radar - I didn’t need any intervention in the end as it got better but it took a good 6 months . Radiotherapy can affect your body for up to years - that’s what I was told , and that it reaches it’s peak effect about 2 weeks after the end of treatment so you aren’t far past that at the moment and I hope it doesn’t get any worse xx

Thankyou for all your replies. Its so helpful to be able to share experiences and have support from you. Ive contacted BCN and am waiting a reply. I expect it will be after the weekend now. Ive just started getting some reddish bruising and pain this afternoon but hoping its just my crop top was too tight! Its so hard to know what is normal when its a completely reconstructed breast. I have an elipse of skin that was from my back 21 years ago that forms part of my reconstruction and that along with the scar is going red. Hope i dont end up having to call 111!
