Radiotherapy or Tamoxifen-dizziness

Hello. I’ve finished my 10 sessions of Radiotherapy this week and started Tamoxifen 6 weeks ago. I’ve had no side effects from the Tamoxifen but some fatigue after the radiotherapy however also had some pretty bad dizziness over the last two days. Can’t work out if it’s due to the RT or the Tamoxifen-has anyone else suffered similar and if so how long did it last? It doesn’t appear on the side effect lists and waiting on a call back from the Nurses. Trying not to worry this is what I’ll need to deal with for the next 5 years……

Difficult to know as could be either. I got dizziness from the start of taking tamoxifen. Didn’t notice it any worse during radiotherapy, but stopped taking it after radiotherapy as I’d given it a few months by then and had loads of other symptoms from it.
Often a 4 week break is suggested to find out which it is, depending on risk. Have a chat to your oncologist to see if its a reasonable option, that way, you will find out what’s causing it. 4 weeks out of 5 years is often seen as not a big deal in the grand scheme.

I had a fuzzy head and some light headedness the first few weeks after I started Tamoxifen. Not dizziness as such but felt like my head was full of cottonwool! Passed after about 4 weeks and my oncologist said it was the tamoxifen.

I had fatigue after radiotherapy and that included some dizziness and nausea - and I didn’t start hormone therapy until after the worst of the fatigue started to lift so it definitely wasn’t that. I’ve just recovered from some sort of virus where I’ve had fatigue again and again it was accompanied by issues with balance some dizziness and nausea .

I have heard of dizziness being a side effect of Tamoxifen but the fact that you took it for 6 weeks without a problem suggests to me that it’s more likely the after effects of radio , which can cause dehydration so increasing your water intake may help . Also don’t push yourself to get " back to normal " - rest if you can but keep gently mobile as having your head still for too long can exacerbate dizziness . If you are still feeling the same way in a few days or it gets worse maybe contact your BCN for advice. Xx
