Hi lovely people.
I have a question which may seem a bit silly.
So I was diagnosed with stage two grade 2 HR2 neg, ER/PR 8 invasive, back in march.
Since then have had surgery to remove the tumor and 7 lymph nodes removed (all clear) and started Tamoxifen.
I start my radiotherapy next week.
I am wondering why some people don’t have to have any radiotherapy and just have surgery and medication?
Thank you xx
If you have a mastectomy often it is not needed unless you need radiotherapy to your lymph nodes either under your arm or in your chest . Also you cant have radiotherapy twice on the same breast so a reoccurrence in same breast would usually mean a mastectomy and no radiotherapy .
I think it depends on the treatment plan and the kind of cancer . I was offered surgery plus radiotherapy and hormone blockers. I was not offered mastectomy for my low grade tiny tumour and I doubt they would have been willing to do it. Some are offered a choice between lumpectomy plus radiotherapy or mastectomy others who have had mastectomy still have radiotherapy. Someone I work with had lumpectomy and radiotherapy but wasn’t asked to take any medication. I would clarify this with your BCN / the radiotherapy ream or the Nurses on the helpline here especially if you’re worried about radiotherapy. Xx
