Hi
I completed my RT (3 weeks worth) in March.
Just before I had my RT I had a cracked filling sorted out by my dentist (just taken over from lovely dentist who retired; she seems really nice & up on all the latest treatments) but she also wants to extract what is left of another tooth.
She asked me to come back 3 months after RT finished. I’ve just done this & she wanted to check about dry mouth; took an x-ray & said NICE guidlines say unable to take tooth for 6 months post treatment as Radiotherapy “can travel” and make your bones weak.
Booked in for August a few days after a routine clinic check with Oncologist. I’ll check with her, if RT given to mouth/neck area I could understand or if I’d had Chemo as I understand that can effect tooth/gum health but I haven’t.
Thankfully my tooth is not causing too much trouble. I was also diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and it may be more to do with this as she said she couldn’t guarantee my health with the “temporary” fix my now retired dentist put in 14 years ago!
Has anyone else come across this. I accept this tooth needs to come out; but why do you need to wait 6 months if RT to Boob not near my mouth? I haven’t heard about RT “Traveling”.
Thankyou
Lynne
