Radiotherapy Timings

I had chemo, mastectomy and I am now moving to radiotherap. I have now been given a date for my first consultation with the oncologist which is 5 weeks after my surgery.

Does anyone know from the first oncologiust consultation how long i would have to wait for the planning sessions and radiotherapy starting

The BCN say it would be another 5 weeks which means i would be around 7 0 days from op to radiotherapy? - Is that correct?

Someone else was talking about timing on another thread earlier today  -  it transpired that 8 - 9 weeks after surgery is the norm.  They have to be sure you are healed before r/t begins.

As example, my WLE/axillary clearance was 10th May, my planning for r/t was 22nd June ( 6 weeks after ) and r/t actually began 11th July ( 8-9 weeks post op ).

Hope that helps a bit.  All the best. x

Hi there,
Just to give you an idea of what I went through.
I had a lumpectomy and my rads started just under 6 weeks after that. Everything for me went pretty quickly from first going to the docs to getting through rads.
I know they always say that you need time for your surgery to heal before rads can start so it makes sense for your timings to being longer then mine as a MX is a lot more involved then the lumpect.
Remember, rads is belt and braces treatment, you’re through the worst and the bugger is out. You just need to go through the mopping up stage now.
Good luck to you and take care xxx

I remember when I had mine I saw my oncologist on 22 November and started treatment on 21 December, yep all over Xmas which was fun!!

I didnt get my results for 6 weeks and I was concerned about the delay in starting rads, my surgeon told me as long as your start with 12 weeks of surgery you are ok, also he said it was belts and braces too.
