Hi
Have any of you had radiotherapy to the neck (cervical nodes - all above collarbone)and if so are there any Se’s other than tiredness and possible burning.
I’m concerned it could effect my voice or oesophegus (sorry can’t spell) What risks do they tell you about?
Many thanks
Linda

Sorry Linda - I’ve only had it to my lower spine - I am tired and there is a burning sensation near the site - but hoping it’s going to go soon as I only had it last week.
Hope this help bump up your message so others see it easily
Hi Linda,
I’m having 15 rads to breast and supra-clavicular (above collarbone)area.
I was told about tiredness, skin problems and that a small part of lung may be affected but nobody mentioned anything about voice or oesophagus problems and they weren’t on the consent form either.
I’m nearly half way through my rads and no side effects yet…

I due to. I haven’t any info yet, still not had surgery. Will check back on this thread :o)
Hi Linda999
I had my supraclavicular area zapped- 50 grays - over 25 sessions. I did get a small burn in that area but Aloe Vera Gel helped and the “skin nurse” gave me some dressings which protected it too.
I also had some inflamation of my oesophagus- felt like I had a lump in my throat. They told me it should disappear after a few months- I’m only 4 weeks post rads now and I don’t notice it as much now as when I was still being zapped.
Tiny tip of my left lung probably was affected but no change to my voice or with breathing
Hope that helps. Good luck with the rads. x
Hi Linda,
I had rads to neck last Sept. Major burning round collarbone and neck area - very, very sore! Neck has cleared up well though, without scarring. No voice or throat issues, some scarring to lungs, but no effects from it. Main thing was - it worked! Wishing you all the best,

PS - saw your other post - that is awful and unacceptable to have those delays. Really hope you can have rads asap.
Thanks everyone for replying - you’ve put my mind at rest.
Good luck to those of you who are still being zapped.
Sarah - your final comment ‘it worked’ is what I’ll be hoping for!
Thanks again
Linda

Hi, I am also having part of neck zapped and not been warned about any other side effects apart from tiredness, maybe a bit sore and to keep area covered in sun. But I will ask when I go this morning. Nice to hear that it does work!!!
hello,
had 4 FEC and 4 TAX and left mastectomy & node clearance now for the radiotherapy. apparently it’s not entirely neccessary to have it but have been told it’s a make sure. so who am i to argue. I also have to have neck done. this surprised me and also made me panic. first appointment is tuesday to set me up for it. not sure what to expect and not sure if it will start the next day. feeling apprehensive as i just want to recover and be normal again. foolish comment really don’t think i’ll ever be normal again.

Hi Linda
I had radiation to chest wall, axilla, supraclavical, neck and bit of back in Feb/March this year.
I was lucky and found it very easy - no burning, didn’t notice any tiredness either. I did get a bit of itching on my back where I’d missed a bit of irradiated area with the cream. I don’t know if you’re having the full-works together or just the neck done? To cover those areas I had 3 blasts from different angles. Guess it took a bit longer but was still in and out in 15 mins.
I had an excellent cream which I friend kindly bought for me, called Seven: natural-skin-health.com/7Cream.html
Doesn’t smell good but think it did a great job.
Very best of luck and hoping it works for you. xxx Jane
This is playing on my mind. Maybe once i’ve had surgery and move along again, i’ll feel a bit better about it. Or maybe i’m just a Grumpy Cow, lol.
Hi everyone
Adi- its good to hear that your zapping is underway. Lets hope no burning and no tiredness!! How many are you having in total?
Mandy - good luck for Tuesday, I’m sure they’ll tell you everything you need. It would be great if they start the following day. My friends mum had to wait over 10 days from the planning session to the first appt but it might just be that particular hospital.
Jane - thanks for the info on cream. I will have a look into that - who cares if it smells - if it does the trick thats fine by me.
I’m just desperate to get going. The lump on my neck is really quite prominent again and I’m taking pain killers each day as it hurts so much. I’m so hoping that the rads work, as my first lot of chemo didn’t work.
All the best and thank you
Linda
