Radiotherapy trial

I am coming to the end of the dreaded chemo and an considering taking part in ‘Import Low’ trial. Has or is anyone else out there taking part in in?

Hi Anniebear
I had WLE and SNB (which was clear) the end of July and 15 sessions radiotherapy which I finished 3 weeks ago. When I went to Christie Hospital I was asked if I would take part in the Import Low Trial. I wasn’t sure at first and took the info home to read and talk about with OH. Finally decided to take part. I was reassured by the Dr that the safety margins were Ok if I was in one of the new treatment groups. Also, the ultrasound done at the marking up stage shows where the cancer was situated. If the radiographer cannot see this or not 100% sure, then they won’t accept you on the trial. You will then have the standard dose of 40Gy to the whole area.
I was given my allocated group (test arm 1) along with a Life style questionaire at the same visit. The photos were done at the 1st radiopherapy session and I will give blood when I go for my 6 weeks check. The 2 different doses were given at each session and it didn’t involve me having to do anything except “lie back and imagine I was somewhere exotic not on a hard couch”
I can certainly see a slight difference in my skin reaction between the full dose part against the lower dose, but overall I haven’t had much problem.
Personally, I am happy to go into trials if they are going to help make life easier for others in the future. I have a daughter, 2 grandaughters and a daughter in law who hopefully will never have to benefit from any of this research.
Pm me if you want any more info or ask on the forum.
Good luck in the future
