Radiotherapy

Hi. I had a grade three tumour, just resected, and am recovering from a mastectomy. My surgeon saw me this afternoon and is pleased with the results of the surgery. I had neoadjuvant chemo which sent my heart into outer space with a pulse rate of 130 so they will not be doing any more of that.

I would welcome comments and advice from people who have had radiotherapy. My main worry is that I do not live in the mainland and will need to be away from home 5/7 days to get this.

Thanks.

Hi Molly,

Have just finished 15 sessions of rads and had to stay away from home for three weeks Monday to Friday. Don’t know where you’ll be having your radiotherapy but I tried to make it as much of a break as possible. Found places of inerest I would like to visit etc… You may meet other ladies in the same position and you can team up some days, it can be good fun.
The radiotherapy itself is honestly nothing to worry about. My skin in the area that was zapped just looks as if I’ve been in the sun without my sunscreen and can itch a bit. The staff were lovely, really helpful. You also meet other ladies while you are in the waiting room, I made a lot of friends there.

Good Luck
Tina
