Will be starting Rads in 3 weeks and am NOT looking forward to being smelly in July 'cos deodorants (and soap? and perfume? and scented shower gels/creams? ) are all forbidden on the areas being nuked! I’m hoping for cold weather! I know this is really the least of my worries since I was diagnosed in April, but I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for alternatives to deodorants, please?

Have you asked whether you can use something like Pitrok?

Some but not all radiotherapy depts will allow you to use something like this but you really do need to check first. At Exeter we weren’t allowed to use anything at all and I just took some wet wipes in my bag in case I got sticky.
hey
i didnt use anythink
i showered in aqueous cream and also used simple soap.

I understand your worries but you’ll find that you don’t sweat much at all in the armpit near to where you’re having rads. I didn’t use anything and didn’t need to.
The best thing is always to check with your rads dept. Elinda x
I’ve just finished 3 weeks of rads and used simple body wash and plenty of doublebase cream. I’m now at the ‘peak’ so to speak as I finished 2 weeks ago and I’ve got very sore burnt skin in the armpit area, I have found that I’m not sweating at all from that area so deodorant is not necessary.
hi everyone …i had my rads last year and found having coolish showers, aqueous cream for washing was ok…the radio T staff were great …they were so use to people not using deoderants…i was worried myself about wiffyness as i had mine spring/early summer…but after i hadn,t used it for a few days i wasn,t bothered …
I did start to use pitrok deoderant a whole after the treatment had finished
Hi Jen
I completed my RT in March this year. I worked all through (went part-time in third week). I used “Crystal Roc” deoderant stick. OK’d it first with the RT team.
Like someone else said you end up not sweating in the armpit in the RT field.
I lost my hair as well & still no sign of it coming back yet. So have 1/2 an armpit of hair!
My advise would be before you start to use aqueous cream etc to get skin in as good a condition as you can.
Once I’d finished “cooking” about 2 weeks after you finish I ended up peeling; my GP prescribed a cream called Diprobase.
I also used E45 shower cream (once cleared) & found this quite good.
Hope all goes well; I was surprised how quickly it went in the end.

Thanks to all of you for all your tips and encouragement! I’ve listed the products you’ve suggested ready for my next trip to Boots. In the meantime I’ve got my Rads planning appointment today, & will see what they say at Walsgrave Hospital.I feel a lot better about it already!

Hi Jen
I’ve had 7 of 15 rads now and have started carrying a packet of Simple facial cleansing wipes in my bag all the time. I just use one when i think I need it and it’s worked so far!! I was a bit paranoid about not using deoderant too and spotted these when I was shopping last week.
I too was worrying about this thats a great tip weepetal I will get myself some of them, I was thinking today (started today) hope it dont get too hot because of that reason, are we allowed to put deo on when finished ? another thing I forgot to ask ?

Hi Mekala
Its my last day of treatment tomorrow. No deodorant or shaving area for a month I was told. I found rads easy, not much soreness and no skin breaks or anything. It has enlarged a bit, but told this will go down, but def. no deodorant, shaving - nothing!
