rads with seroma.

Hope someone in bcc land can help. I’m due to start rads on 1st April (how’s that for an April Fool). I have an ongoing seroma which is slowly improving. Has anyone had rads with a seroma and if so did you have any problems with it either during or after treatment?
I’ve already had delays due to waiting for port removal. Xx

Hi Suzy, poor you, seromas are uncomfortable aren’t they? I had one too and some swelling that still comes and goes, although tons better than it was a few weeks ago. And I’m going through rads at the moment (I finish on 1st April, perhaps we are an April Fool’s relay team…!).

You will need to ask the hospital but my radiotherapy dept were very unbothered by any swelling, provided I could get my arm into the right position above my head for rads. They told me to take ibuprofen if it helped (it did) before treatment. I am continuing to do this as my arm is still often sore.

You still have a couple of weeks and things may sort themselves out anyway, so try not to worry. A couple of things that have helped me were 1) lying on the opposite side to the seroma at night to allow fluid to drain and 2) seeing the BC nurse. I had a couple of non-dissolved stitches that were irritating things and felt a lot better when she took these out. She also helped me with padding etc so that I could feel more comfortable wearing my bra.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon xx
