Rash on same breast 3 weeks before surgery

Sorry for all my tales of woe but this journey is just horrific. I have dcis and an invasive lump that is all planned to be removed with a full mastectomy on the 18th September. A few days ago I developed a skin rash (looks like dermatitis or an irritation) all around the lower part of my nipple (where the dressing was a month prior from the Stereotactic core biopsy) I had bathed the night before in a bath with some bubble bath. A skin biopsy has been taken to rule out inflammatory breast cancer and the rash appeared so suddenly and obviously would drastically change the treatment plan. I am just so stressed out. I had a pet scan which didn’t show anything other than what they already knew ie dcis and invasive lump. No lymph node involvement. My breast isn’t red or hot or swollen there is just this area of rash which is now all bruised from the punch biopsy. I keep trying to remain positive but am obsessing with my thoughts and keep ending up with worse case scenarios.

Can I have a reaction 4 weeks after dressings? When you add in the bubble bath as an additional irritant?

How likely could inflammatory be if it wasn’t picked up before now?

Would I expect more swelling, red heat rather than just a rash if it were inflammatory?

Sorry for the long post but feeling lost

Hi @norms80, I am not able to advise you on your situation however, I too had a reaction to the plaster they applied after my biopsies but I knew it was from the plaster as the rash was square in shape. Hope you get answers x

Thank you! This whole thing is just awful. It makes you worried and paranoid about everything. I have an appointment for my pre op assessment on Tuesday and the rash does seem to be getting better…which I assume it wouldn’t if it were inflammatory. Biopsy results next week and then at least I will know. Thanks for your reply x

Biopsy result was just a skin reaction so fingers crossed it’s healed by the time of surgery. Not inflammatory cancer though
