Hi
I am 7 weeks post mastectomy and reconstruction for invasive lobular.
I have had issues healing my boob wound (but lymph site fine) and 3 pico dressings and accompanying antibiotics - clindamycin.
Im now on letrazole 5 weeks or so.
3 weeks ago on removal of pico 3 I developed a bright red localised rash between my boobs and under reconstructed boob. It blanches to touch, is better in the morning but gets brighter during the day. Can sometimes have a burning sensation but not always. Comfortable with antihistamine but not reducing
We left it a while to see if it was a reaction to dressings but that didnt happen so am currently on high dose clindamycin 300g x 4 for 7 days
My consultant says he has never seen before but I’m pretty sure someone probably has
Any experience of this
Thanks
Hi harr
Thank you for posting. It sounds like you have had a difficult recovery following your mastectomy and reconstruction and it is understandable that you have questions. It is good to hear that you are being followed up your consultant and being treated with high dose antibiotics.
It sounds as though the rash you are experiencing may be due to an infection, if so, the antibiotics should help it to resolve. If it doesn’t improve then it is important to contact your treatment team again who will review the antibiotics.
The burning sensation you describe may be due to nerve damage following surgery and is a common post operative side effect that can sometimes take weeks or months to improve.
It may help to post on our peer-to-peer support area of the forum to connect with other people who may have had a similar experience after breast surgery.
