Has anyone had their secondary BC re-biopsied after treatment failure?
I was originally triple positive (July 17) and now after Herceptin & Pertuzamab (after 11 months) and Kadcyla (after 2 cycles) have stopped working, with progression in lymph nodes and bones, I am waiting for an appointment for a biopsy to re-evaluate my status.
The question is; am I still positive and have become resistant to the HER2+ treatments, or have I gone negative?
Was told this on 11 December, and after 2 unsuccessful biopsy attempts, I’m waiting for a 3rd appointment. All the while I have a party going on inside me, which scares me. Keep trying to remind myself that progression was spotted early, and as I’m not in any real discomfort, I should be enjoying not having any treatment (only Zometa) but it’s not that easy.
Would be be interested to know whether anyone has changed from positive - negative, or vice versa?
Xx
Hi
Yes, mine has changed over the years - I think I’ve probably said this on the liver resection thread.
My primary was ER and PR + (HER2 wasn’t routinely tested for in 2003). A local recurrence was also the same in 2008 and that sample and the original tissue from 2003 was tested for HER2 and I was negative for HER2. After liver mets showed up in 2013 I had a biopsy and it showed triple positive. Another liver biopsy in 2016 also showed triple positive. However the liver resection gave a larger sample to check and in fact the lesion that had always behaved completely differently to any other met (and had been biopsied on 2 occasions) was triple negative. Having had that removed my mets should all be back to hormone positive, HER 2 negative.

I had one biopsy of my rib bone when I was diagnosed with MBC and they couldn’t not get the right specimen so it was negative I would like to have another because I think my medicine stopped working but I am afraid because I am prone to infection
