I’ve recently had my hair cut and wanted it coloured but the hairdresser was reluctant saying she had dealt with a previous client who had undergone treatment for bc and was advised not to have any colouring. Is this true?
Hi Krissy I finished my chemo end of August I have always had my hair coloured and it was coming back with lots of grey and couldnt stand it I had my hair coloured after 4 months ,had it done for xmas some say to wait 6 months but I couldnt and after all I thought the worst that could happen is it would fall out again ha ha I have now had it re-coloured twice and its been fine x
I also did mine after about 4 months, using Naturetint, and it was fine. Most of mine wasn’t new growth though, as I had good results with the cold cap.
I only finished chemo on 9th December and my hair was coming back quite thick and white so I ordered some organic dye online from Daniel Field and it looks more of a natural blonde now. Didn’t damage it at all
Thanks everybody for your comments. Maybe the hairdresser was being overly cautious. I’ll give her a ring and book a colour. It came in a mass of curls after being polka straight and I hated it. Its short and straight now which I love but it needs injecting with a colour.
Hi Donna - I don’t mind at all - it was very successful. There was just one area on the top that thinned noticeably. I didn’t have the Paxman, it was the other type, and I did as advised and had my hair cut very short before starting. I hope it works as well for you.
hi finty,
is paxman the type of machine?
i too have had my hair cut short, and i only was it once/twice a week, did you need to wear a wig? my hair looks greasy but i wont wash it until i have too,
thankyou
Yes, I think the Paxman is one that is plugged in so stays cold all the time. I had the basic one that they have to change every 20 or 30 minutes because it warms up. No, I never needed to wear a wig - just a hat for warmth when it got very cold. If you didn’t know me you wouldn’t think I had lost any hair at all - but because it was quite thick to start with I could tell. I also didn’t wash it often - just once a week with baby shampoo. Make sure when the cap is on that it is always pulled down tight so has good contact with the scalp.
I waited 2 1/2 years before I coloured mines. I knew it would be grey when it grew back as I’d started going grey in my 20s, so had been dyeing for about 22 years. However, it came back a fantastic shade of silver which really caught the light and suited me. I was very happy with it, but after about 2 years it started growing in dark at the back, so it looked nasty. I’m now a soft shade of blonde which is only 2 shades away from the original silver. I use professional products on it so it doesn’t dry out.
