Re: Tamoxifen - Nausea and vomiting

Hiya

Hope someone can offer advice on some side effects I’m having on tamoxifen. I started at the end of May and have been on them for about 4 months now. However, a few weeks ago after breakfast I suddenly needed to vomit. I was fine after that. Then again at the weekend the same thing happened. It comes on so quick and I don’t feel ill, its really weird. I do tend to have a general nausea feeling which doesn’t seem to totally go.

Look forward to any comments.

Krissy

Hi Krissy
I have been on Tamoxifen for 18 months now and for the first 3 months I was suffering dreadful nausea and wuld regularly be unwell. When I spoke to my oncologist about it , it was suggested that I should take it at before bed which I started doing… the symptoms disappeared.
May be worth a go…
Best wishes

Hi,
I have been on Tamoxifen for nearly a month now and find that the nausea is worse if I take it on an empty stomach.I haven’t actually been sick but have had an underlying nausea on and off.
Do mention it to your BCN or GP, as I think is recommended on the leaflet with the tablets.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi all

I have been taking tamox since Jan 10 and take it before bed. I still get the horrendous bone/muscle aches and pains, but no nausea - give it a try and see if it works for you.

Take care and best of luck

J

i used to get lots of nausea until my onc said to eat some supper before bed, which somehow seems to help with the nausea in the mornings. I take my tamox at 7 in the evening. Have been on it since April this year.

Do you have any other symptoms when you vomit such as any burning pain beforehand?

Hiya everyone

Thanks for all your advice. I take tamoxifen with breakfast at about 7am. Im wondering if it will be better to take it at night like a few of you have suggested. Think I’ll do that from tomorrow. I don’t get any burning, the only feeling I can aliken to is morning sickness. Yuk.

Thanks again

Take care

Sometimes it takes a while to settle with side effects. I had to have hormone treatment for endometriosis and when I started that I was very nauseous but it gradually improved. You haven’t been taking it long and I found all side effects worse in the first few months.

The best thing is to experiment with the time you take tamoxifen and see what works for you. After trying morning and evening I’ve found that lunchtime is best for me. I have less nausea but I’m not kept awake all night by hot flushes which I was when I took it in the evening.
Hope things improve for you. E x

I wanted to add that if you have more vomiting attacks then you should speak to your GP or Oncologist. They may be able to give you something to help or further advice.

HI Krissie,
I’d say speak to your oncologist if it isn;t better after changing to evening- I have been really sickly through a whole range of different treatments and they always seem to come up with something to help - don’t wait for an apptment, just call the secretary and ask to chat on the phone with them. cheers nicola

Thanks again everyone. Today is my first day of taking tamoxifen at night. I’m gonna try it just before I go to bed and see how it goes. If it doesn’t improve, I’ll do what a few of you have suggested and contact the oncologist.

Hope everyone is okay

Thanks again

Hi ya,
Just to say I was really nauseous when I started, and it was a change of brand to APS that sorted that one out. I am now taking it at night too but because I get lightheaded an hour after taking it. Been better past few days thankfully. Hope its working for you.

Hi Kissy, i have been on tamoxifen for almost 2 years now, it has made me feel nauseous on and off, but on a couple of occasions recently i have been vomiting a couple of hours after breakfast. Did you get any answers or have you been given anything that has helped. I have been suffering with hearburn too, which i wondered if it was linked. I do take my tamoxifen at night and always have. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated,

I’ve been taking tamoxifen for about 5 months now & it has done me the same way all of a sudden it is making me vomit. For the past month I feel nauseous & vomit at least once a week. I feel better afterwards but it doesn’t make sense why it should do this now after I have been taking it for several months.
