Reading into it too much

Hi I’m Lynn
I had breast cancer in may 2023
From finding my cancer to having it removed
Lumpectomy then 15 days radiation treatment was so quick it was like a blur and I took it in my stride cancer free by the end of that year felt great
I had a friend who also had breast cancer she was cancer free for 5 years then it came back in her spine then spread she’s now passed
I’m now worried it’s come bad with me
I have serious pain in my back seen specialist and apparently he thinks it’s coming from my neck although the pain is I the bottom of my back
Also had blood tests as my legs are swelling
Results cam back to see dr the blood tests were for liver kidney and heart all to see dr
I’m now going for chest X-ray more bloods and ecg
Sooooooo anxious has it come back

Dear foxy1,

So sorry to read your post, we are here for you to unload at any time.

Once we have been down the cancer path, we always worry about it returning, be kind to yourself keep busy (all extremely easy for me to say) when you are so anxious about all what’s happening at the moment. Also chat with your breast cancer nurse, or the nurses on this site who are always very supportive.

Keep posting to let us know how you’re getting on.

With the biggest hugs.

Thank you so much Tili for you kind words it’s taken me 2 years to even talk about my feelings I do keep things to myself but when things prey on your mind it’s hard with no one to truly understand how you are feeling I’m trying to keep busy as I have a new grandchild on the way so im knitting at the mo but not easy to concentrate all the time as the black thoughts do enter your mind when least expecting
I will try talk to my breast nurse or even the nurses on this site thanks once again for taking the time to reply to me  x

Hi foxy1

Thank you for your post.

Nearly everyone who has been treated for cancer worries about it coming back (recurrence) and you’re not alone in being anxious about this. The uncertainty and fear of breast cancer returning is very real. Many people find this anxiety lessens over time, but after experiencing the loss of a friend from breast cancer, it’s understandable that you are feeling worried. It’s important to remember that not all breast cancers are the same.

There are other conditions that can explain your back pain and leg swelling that may not necessarily be related to your previous diagnosis of breast cancer but it is completely understandable that you are anxious about this. It sounds like your doctor is doing a range of investigations to find the cause of these problems. As @Tili has suggested, maybe you could speak to your breast care nurse about how you are feeling while you wait for these results.

You can also speak to one of our nurses on the helpline if you would like to talk this through with us or have any further questions.
