Really annoyed with my Dr's surgery

Hi all, this is really the first time I’ve been on here since they did the new boards.

About a week ago I had an eye clinic appointment as I was referred by my optician due to experiencing double vision in one eye every few weeks. It lasts about 15 mins and makes me feel a bit sick and off balance. The clinic couldn’t find anything wrong with my eyes and they told me as I’ve had migraines in the past they have to put it down to what they call ocular migraine. One thing the Consultant picked up on was the fact my BP was quite high and she advised me to see my GP to get monitored. Every time I’ve had my BP taken in the past 18 months I’ve been told this, the GP blames everything on being post menopausal since I had BC treatment. I’ve got an appointment to see her in a week.

Anyway, to get to the point, a nurse from the surgery rang me this afternoon to say they had been contacted by the diabetic clinic as my details had flagged up on their system - I had been at the clinic 4 years ago as the steroid they give you for chemo was mimicing Type 2 symptoms, and I had to get checked out as my brother is a diabetic. For the rest of the time I was on chemo I had to test my blood twice a day, but then it went back to normal. The reason the nurse was contacting me was because last autumn I’d had a blood test for underactive thyroid as I’m struggling with losing weight - this is despite dieting and exercising up to 6 days a week.

It turns out my blood was tested for sugar levels and the reading was high and I should have been checked out - it has taken them 6 MONTHS to contact me about this , it appears they only found out by chance because the clinic contacted them as the note had been filed. When I contacted them about the thyroid test I was just told the results had been back for 10 days (!) and they were negative. The other blood test was supposed to be done 1 month from them getting the test results back.

The nurse has said she’ll ask the GP if she will do the test when I’m there next week as there were no nurse appointments to tie in with this. However, the docs at my surgery often refuse to do blood tests as they don’t see it as their job. I’m now left wondering if there is another underlying reason for all the visual disturbances and the fact I can’t lose weight (I cut out 90% of bread, potatoes, cereal, rice and pasta 3 months back, still nothing is happening and I don’t know what else I can cut out).

To say I am really flipping angry is an understatement!

Hello Cherub,  I can really sympathise with you, and hope that you feel better now you have messaged on here. It is a fantastic forum, and there is always someone who understands. Well if it is of any help I feel the same about my local GP surgery, it has got to the point now, that my OH has to phone them as I just get so wound up. My actual GP is great but getting an appt with her is almost impossible- usually a 3 week wait !!

I had a problem with my left eye, but was advised to go straight to A&E -possible TAI,  end result an op as eye had turned outwards, don’t really know why- possibly stress related. I had a fantastic surgeon, and have been seen in June and do not have to return.  My GP has been good about everything relating to my BC,  BUT everything else is a nightmare. i have underactive thyroid so struggle to loose weight, especially at present, as its hard to exercise. so was not very pleased when the health assistant did my FULL health check and said I must loose wait and here is a list of gyms.  Didn’t she understand I had  had MX 8 weeks earlier,Nov 12  and was already going to weight watchers…  and she was definitely several sizes larger than me.!!!

I had my pre op checks last October and the instruction said that If I was unwell to contact my GP so as I had bad sore throat that had not gone using the usual things I got appt with nurse…  go home and take paracetamol. o and your BP is high get it checked after op.  3 days later back to GP- and told I have chest infection,  very nearly had to cancel op.Nov 5    not happy.  I saw my GP a few weeks ago, and she has suggested I have some counselling,  Spoke with my BCN  who is so lovely, and explained the setup at GP surgery, and she has  given me someone else to go to,  Also advise is that I change to a differant GP practise,  so OH is going to sort that for me next week

So guess that all i can say to you, is maybe consider changing to another surgery if that is possible,  maybe consider putting in a formal complaint, or at least asking to speak to the practise manager we did,  also  chat to your BCN.   We don’t need all this additional hassle with what we have been through.

Take Care,

Sorry if I have winged,

Sending you Huggles  -(think thats hugs and cuddles my young grandsons special word)

Jenny.

PS nothing wrong with my BP!!  its been checked if anything to goes way to low after ops etc.

Cherub, have you considered making a formal complaint to the practice manager. Complaints in the nhs are taken very seriously and you clearly have not been treated in the way that’s you would expect…
All good wishes to you, as if you haven’t had enough to deal with
