Yes true it’s so easy to jump straight to the worst conclusion
Hi @annie27 i think a lot of the really long wait times are within Northern Ireland. Unfortunately there is also only one symptomatic breast clinic in all of NI and due to the demands on NHS the private clinic also has 4-6 week wait time. When I enquired about the clinic the total cost was going to be around £3,000 due to requiring biopsy as well. I was looking at flying to England or Scotland and researching lots of options but unfortunately none were viable for me at the time. It’s crazy the care is so different regionally in terms of diagnosis and the system in NI really needs a lot of work as the wait is complete torture. As someone who has a fast growing cancer, grade 3 triple positive IDC, I dread to think what may have happened if I ended up having to wait the full 10 weeks or if I wasn’t super proactive and called GP the day I found my lump ![]()
Hi enia1703,
That is really the worst kind of postcode lottery! I grew up in NI but live in England now. Merseyside, where I live, has a really excellent service. I’ve been following your story and so pleased to read that you’ve started your journey back to health! The waiting for results is the worst time. I really hope everything goes well for you from now on!

Thanks @enia1703 I’m currently in a sea of boxes and clutter, but terrified about Tuesday’s appointment. Because mine is lobular and therefore often hard to see on mammogram and ultrasound I’ve convinced myself that I’ll be in the 40% of people who need more biopsies after the MRI and before any treatment. It does seem like at every appointment you find out something but are then told about something else which will require more tests and more waiting. Feeling very scared today, not helped by torturing myself with Google…
Hope everyone is doing OK just popping on to say I rang booking office and they told me I should get phone call before end week to offer me my first appointment as they were checking in today ones dated 30th December mine was 31st xx
