REALLY sore patch - can I use Sudocrem?

Can anyone help please? I would ask at the hospital if it were not the middle of a Bank Holiday weekend…

I have my final rads on Tuesday then 8 boosts. My skin is doing quite well considering the number of treatments. I have made sure to apply plenty of aqueous or E45 cream and keep out of the sun, and go bra-less as much as I can. But I have one particularly sore area underneath my breast, and the nurse gave me some special gel for it and explained it is commonplace in well-endowed women LOL.

The gel reeeally hurts when I apply it. I am wondering is there any reason why I could not use Sudocrem, which is designed for babies with napkin rash (and really delicate baby skin) and I usually swear by it for little cuts/burns/blisters. It’s petroleum based as far as I am aware, and not perfumed, and I have a tub in the bathroom.

But I don’t want to do anything I’m not sposed to and which may make things worse or hinder my treatment?

thankfully from wednesday onwards that area will no longer be getting zapped.

Hi there, sympathy with your sore patch - is it possible you could ask for advice from a pharmacy - usually open within supermarkets. Hope all is well soon.

I was told NOT to use Sudocrem just the gel which I hated. The only relief I got was to expose it to the air and blow a cold hairdrier or a fan over it.Dont put anything on it without asking-you could ring the oncology ward at the hospital and speak to one of the nurses there they will help you.Love Valx

Hi Clarabel

I am just getting over the effects of rads and am very well endowed therefore have had the same problem. Don’t use anything without asking and my “top tip” is to put something in the crease under your breast, preferably a non adhesive dressing about the size of a small sanitary towel and it will be “trapped” by your breast and prevent it rubbing on the chest wall. if you have no dressings, try a spotless cotton hanky

Good luck

I had slight splitting on the collar bone and under arm towards teh end of my rads - nothing under the breast tho. I used a panty liner as a dressing when the chemist was shut so I can echo Louise’s suggestion.

Does your rads unit have a helpline number that you can ring for advice? I would be hesitant to use anything opther than the stuff they have provided. Also keep an eye on the sore area and get it checked immediately if there is any sign of infection.

Although my rad treatment was some years ago, I lost all the skin under the zapped breast (I am well endowed, too!) I was given a gel pack by my Oncology unit, to put in the fridge and then under my breast, although sometimes, when I was waiting for that to cool, I too used a sanitary towel or panty liner. I would not use anything on there, until you have had clearance from your Oncology unit.

If you use the panty liners with ‘silk’ in the description they are very soft and dont stick[my split was under the boob and was very sore.Vx

i think sudocrem may have metals in it… which would be a no no with rads - i’d ring the oncology ward
