Really worried after call back

Just had my first mammogram on the NHS.  I’m 48.  Received letter week later for call back in four days. I’ve had two mammograms at Bupa in 2005 and 2009. Turned out to be fluid in breasts presenting as lumps.  No lump this time, just a bit of discomfort near my armpit.  I am really scared and trying to get prepared. Can anyone help me relax???

A recal is very anxiety provoking and it’s so hard not to panic but in reality the majority are given the all clear after a further check up, and as this is your first NHS mammogram they have nothing to check it against as they won’t have access to your precious ones done privately , I went with my sister when she was recalled and they were so lovely and incredibly thorough, she thankfully came away with the all clear ? Nothing awful will happen at the clinic, you will have another mammogram then if needed an ultrasound, they may do a biopsy which will be a week or so wait for results but this is a big if so try not to focus on what might happen as the likely hood is all will be well Xx Jo

Hi Johanneh
How are you getting on? I’ve just spent a sleepless night after getting a recall letter too! Like you, I’ve had fluid cysts in my breasts but that was a long time ago, and I can’ t feel a lump this time either, just discomfort in my breast. It’s not easy to be calm and relax is it?
Hope you had the all clear?
