mammogram recall
I had a lumpectomy & radiotherapy on my right breast in 2018. Went for my yearly follow-up mammogram & have been recalled as the tissue behind my nipple on my left breast appeared a little bit distorted. The hospital arranged a different view mammogram & an ultrasound for next Thursday. My question is, is distorted mammograms a common reason for recalls. It’s the waiting game. My mind is racing because I’ve already been through Breast Cancer & hope & pray I don’t have to go through it again
Hi Wee Mrs,
I understand your concern, and it’s hard because you don’t have much info to go on, so sending a gentle hug.
Hopefully someone who has experienced this will post soon.
Sometimes the mammograms aren’t as clear as they could be, if someone has very dense breast tissue or if they can’t get the plates close enough re those us us who find such things painful (like me). Not sure about actual distorted tissue, not sure if scarring or tissue hardening after radio may affect the image in this way from certain angles (not an expert…)?
I think it might be worth you posting on the ask the nurses section as well, or given your mind is spinning perhaps phoning the BCN nurse (tel number at top right hand side of screen). While they won’t be able to comment specifically on your situation I reckon they would have heard of recalls for this reason, so they might be able to expand and help calm your racing mind a tad while you are waiting for the next scans and results.
Do post again if you think any of can help or need to share or off-load…
