im 48 and had first mammagram two weeks ago and now got aletter for more tests im so scared .what they will do x
Hi there
Good that you found yourself on this site- there are lots of folks who can give great support and advice.
There are many reasons why you would get a recall- it could be the films were inconclusive and they want to re-do. I know its easy to say, but try to keep calm until you get the next checks. My friend was called back and it was just that- they couldnt read results well enough and she was fine.
Curious why you had screening at your age as its 50 onwards here in Scotland.
Take care and good luck
Cathie
Cathie, that’s because some areas are lowering the age to 47 upwards.
Shortbread, you might want to look at the Publications section of the site to find the leaflet about what happens at a breast clinic. Look at the first lot of leaflets which talk about being worried rather than after diagnosis, as they are very informative and can tell you what is likely to happen at a clinic, what sort of tests they might want to do, what they’ll be looking for, that kind of thing. You might also want to give the helpline a ring on Monday to talk things over with a human voice, they’re very good.
Best of luck, and try not to fret too much, hard though that is.
thats right cathie where i live in devon all women of 47 to 50 are offered a mammagram now
Thats great news shortbread-glad you had your opportunity to get screened.xx
Hi
I had a letter calling me back after a mammogram on the 26th of feb, it arrived on a saturday and I panicked like crazy. Went back to the hospital that Tuesday and they told me they had found something that looked like DCIs (early cancer) I was petrafied, and had a biopsy and was told it was defintely that the following week. I had my surgery two weeks ago. I got the results back last week, and was told that as well as the DCIS I have two small invasive tumours, one being 1mm and the other being 3mm, the point of my reply to your email is this. What they have found has been picked up by a mammogram and that its early as had not even turned into a palpable lump. The breast cancer nurse said that having mammograms saves lifes as so many cancers are found early otherwise if the end result was going to be the same they woudl not spend millions doing them every year. What I am trying to say if it turns out to be cancer, there is a very good chance your mammogram has caught it early and saved your life. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
