Recent diagnosis and second biopsy

Hello, I was diagnosed yesterday with grade 1 invasive ductal cancer and HER 2 is negative- I think I have said that correctly but I am just getting used to this new vocabulary!
It is difficult news to process but am feeling really lucky as they kept saying curable and treatable and early and so I feel scared but positive and very fortunate.
One thing I am worried about though is that they want to biopsy another area that they originally said was just dense breast tissue. The area is 14mm. I just wondered if the results of this could drastically impact my prognosis? Could it be a higher grade cancer? Just in a bit of a panic about it all. My BCN is fantastic but when she phoned me today I forgot to ask because I was crying to her about how hard I had found it telling my Mum and my three children. I can call her tomorrow but thought posting on here might be helpful. My head is just a bit full. I know that I will have to have either a lumpectomy or masectomy followed by radiotherapy and poss chemo but I just wondered if the biopsy results could mean a different treatment plan and a less positive outcome? Thank you x

Hello.
I was given my biopsy results yesterday. Invasive ductal carcinoma in both breasts. I feel emotionally numb, not sure what to expect. We are waiting on 1 more result of the progression of the cancer. We will know that result tomorrow. We meet with the oncology team on Wednesday.
I am 53 with the most loving and supportive husband (27 years) I can ever be blessed with and together we have 3 beautiful, sweet, and smart daughters (19, 22 and 24). They are all my best friends♥️
I am so happy to have found this forum. I look forward to listening to everyone’s stories as we live through this journey together and kick its a$$. Hugs to all😘

Hello, you are at the beginning of a very difficult but very doable journey. It is very likely that your treatment plan will evolve as new information becomes available. They can’t really know exactly what they are dealing with until it is all out of your body and under a microscope. It is impossible not to worry and speculate but try to put your trust in them, they are very thorough and they know what they are doing. Good luck xx

Hi tryingnottogoogle,

Thank you for your post.

It’s understandable you’re asking if the results of the other area in your breast which needs to be biopsied could impact your treatment plan and prognosis.

The biopsy will give your treatment team more information about this area so they’re able to confirm if it’s dense breast tissue as t initially thought, or something else. Once they have received all your results, it will be discussed at a multi disciplinary team meeting to decide and confirm the treatment that’s best for your individual situation.

As @laneycass mentions, it can be difficult not to worry or panic about how your treatment plan may change depending on the results of your further biopsy. It can be helpful to speak to your breast care nurse or treatment team about how you’re feeling. This will help them to support you while you wait for these results. They may be able to give you more information on the likelihood of your treatment plan changing.
