Recently diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi Katie like you have just been diagnosed & going through various emotions Focus on the positive that it has been found and can be treated! Each day as it comes -we will get through it

Hi to everybody on the forum and thank you all so much for the support and messages. It makes such a difference to hear from other people going through the same thing.

I saw the oncologist on Tuesday who’s recommended Chemo (they’d told me this earlier so I was expecting it). He said he thought as I only had cells in 1 node 4 sessions should be O.K but I can have 6 if I want. This has left me a bit stressed as, obviously, I’d prefer to have 4 if this is enough. He said he was confident that it would be but has left the final decision to me. I think I’m going to phone and talk to the nurses again about this as there seem to be different drugs involved for the 4 and 6 and I want to try to reassure myself about the 4. No dates but should be starting in the next week or two.

It’s great to hear about you all being so positive and pragmatic. My brain, and my husband, are all saying the same as you but somehow it’s taking me a while to actually feel that way.

Best wishes to everybody,

Nicky

Hi I was diagnosed on Thursday still a little in shock, was told I have to have chemo before op hopefully allow the lump to srink, I am dreading chemo as you hear all sorts of things. It’s nice to read other people’s storys as it give you hope that you can get through this.

Hi I was also diagnosed last Thursday, I was told I have to have chemo before surgery as this will srink the lump, it all happens so quickly it’s only five week since I found the lump they said it is stage 1 but grade 3 so fast growing, I am booked it to have a clip attached on tuesday, and hopefully start chemo within the next week, not that I’m looking forward to it as it’s the most thing I am dreading you hear all kinds of romours about chemo I am scared of what it will do to me and the thought of loosing my hair gives me nightmares, I am in shock and can’t believe this is happening to me it’s so nice to read others stories it makes you realise you are not alone x

Hi Lisalaw,

I’m a bit different to you, had a mastectomy 5 weeks ago but now have to have chemo as there were cells in one of my lymph nodes. I’m due to start in the next few weeks and, like you, not looking forward to it! I’m trying to stay positive and not start thinking of problems in advance but it’s difficult isn’t it? Let me know how you get on and I’ll do the same.

Nicky.
