Recommendations on exercise to avoid lymphedema

Hi! I had a mastectomy performed last Monday but I did not get any information on how to prevent lymphoedema. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi, I had a lumpectomy and SLNB but found some resources you may find useful. BCN has some initial info about things you can do to reduce risk:

Also, I listened to some podcasts, one that I listened to and found good was

Also, it’s good to get into the habit of your post surgery exercises first (leaflet is also available through breast cancer now with them and demos too if you look online). Movement is good and the exercises get you moving but also help with your recovery from surgery to get range of motion back. I’m not sure when you can start exercising more after surgery, so it’s worth checking this with your team, but the key is to build up slowly and gradually so that it is safe. There are exercise programs specifically for post surgery/breast cancer treatment such as Get Me Back UK (she has a post surgery breast cancer program that is very good and will safely allow you to build things up again).

Great information! Thank you sooo much! I will check the podcast and website! Have a good one.

Besos!

I didn’t have mastectomy but did find this book a good source of information

Hi, Prevention needs to be carried out for many years, but i’ve adopted: Massage techniques as given in the Breast care leaflets/ macmillan leaflets available at you hospital breast unit/ plus - Tellington Touch also known as TTeam as developed by Mosche Feldenkrais, it works using circular movements which reactivate or re-awaken cells within the brain and body. basically using a 12 hour clock, move the skin in a clockwise direction from 6 through 6 to 9, 1 and 1/4 circle, gentle move the skin, don’t slide over it. this is difficult to explan and i’m sure video information will now be available on the internet. [I have attended courses using this on animals Dogs and horses, but its now also being used for those people who have had a stroke to reawaken nerves and cells connected]. I hope this helps, Moonsox.

IT does help a lot! Thank you so much! I will be sure to put this in practice!

Great! I just added to my Amazon cart! Thank you so much!
