Recon post recurrence and radiotherapy 2013

Hello all and 'Happy New Year!

I was told on the 20th of Dec that I have two tumours in my breast. I had two tumours in 2013 so in totoal 4 tumours in the same breast - how greedy! Treatment was a lumpectomy, radiotherapy, and tamoxifen for 3 years (I found that in year two I was starting to get intolerable side effects. I was 42, with a 3 and 6 year old), so I stopped it with the blessing of the medical team. Strong positive family history and though BRACA -ve, it was felt there was a genetic element.

Unsure if lymph nodes are included - no clear result from the axilla needle biopsy which was then repeated on the 20th Dec. I get the results Fri at a meeting back with the surgeon. Certainly a full mastectomy this time, possible full anc if positive lymph nodes, and possibly chemo. Recon options - I had radiotherapy with a pre existing implant in place. Lots of capsular contracture and distortion over the years post radiotherapy but it’s not been too bad all in.

It makes recon this time a bit more limited. They are looking at implant, the muscle from the back being transferred and infilling with fat transfer. I’m a swimmer and keep very fit boxing etc. Unsure what recovery may be like - obviously it’s an individual thing too, but I have been very lucky to recover quickly form things in the past.  Either way, i was told to fatten up over Christmas - silver linings eigh :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you in advance for your listening ear and time. x

Paged,

So sorry to read your post, and to be in this position again. Wishing you lots of luck on Friday.

This reconstructed needs a lots of consideration as you are a sporty person it could go either way your fitness may help you, I had this reconstruction 5 years ago, unfortunately it didn’t go well for me (I’m a good few years old that you) and still have discomfort. Also I understand from one of the nurses at Guy’s hospital they don’t carry out this surgery due to aftercare and pain.

Hopefully, you will get some good advise from your consultation.

Please keep us posted, big hugs Tili :rainbow:
