reconstruction after 9 years

Hi guys,
this is my first post on this forum, I had breast cancer 9 years ago I only had a partial masectomy but as my boobs are very small 32AA after the op i had just about disapeared, my husband wasn’t bothered by this and at the time neither was i we had busy lives and 3 children, my problem now is my husband has now left us and i have no confidence about going out and meeting other people, i’m 45 wear a size 6 so when i go out i feel like a school girl. what I would like to know is there a time limit on when you can have reconstruction, I know i was told 9 years about all this but have forgotten.

A lady wrote on here recently that she’d been in a bed next to a 70 year old who had finally decided on recon after many, many years.

Go for it I say!

As far as I know you can decide in your own time. You may not be an Archers fan but Ruth is going for it after seven years. You do what you feel is right for you and make that appointment. You are still young, and if you think it will help you, then go for it.

Hi Padstow

I was told at dx that I could have an immediate recon, but I decided that it didn’t want one, cons said that anytime in the future if I changed my mind I could have one, didn’t put a time limit on it. Don’t know if this is any help.

Hi Penny,
I’ve had immediate reconstruction and also, delayed reconstruction and the hospital that I was treated at, made it clear that recon was something that could be done years later.
Do whatever is best for you and wishing you all the very best in whatever you decide,

Hi Padstow,

I was the one that was in a bed next to the 70 year old lady that had recon, she had waited over 10 years, she had the procedure using the skin and fat from the tummy. I have to say she was amazing, up and out of bed in no time at all and she showed me the results and it looked brilliant…

You go for it, I had bilateral recon using the skin and muscle from the back 5 1/2 months ago and haven’t looked back, I am so pleased with the results.
