Hello
I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer for the 2nd time in July 2023, I had a left breast mastectomy with immediate reconstruction with an implant. Initial few weeks, all was fine, but as soon as I became more mobile issues started to occur. To cut a long story short, I lost the functionally in my left arm due to a frozen shoulder which took months to identify, to the point I had to seek a 2nd opinion to move the issue forward. I was placed on Gabapentin to address initial pain management, have since had a hydro-distension injection in the shoulder and movement has returned to a level of expectation post a mastectomy. However, it is now clear that the implant is too big for my size and shape, it is very obvious when I wear my size in tops, so I have gone up a size to cover the issue. The frozen shoulder is probably the result of how I positioned and carried my arm during the months of discomfort. I now have a new breast cancer team and the conversation has turned to removing the current implant for a smaller one.
Has anyone else had this procedure?
Hi
I see you haven’t had any responses to your post yet - I feel for you, what you describe sounds quite unique … hopefully you have confidence in your new treatment team and you feel able to ask them any questions you need to as you start to understand and process the treatment plan that they suggest for you.
Perhaps be reassured that all is not lost, and I am sure the outcome will end up less uncomfortable and more acceptable to you in all senses. Just a long journey to get there, bless you.
Good luck xx
Hi @molls1, thank you for posting. I hope someone with a similar experience is able to share their thoughts, and in the meantime @cheerful50’s words are very true: your treatment team should be able to answer any questions you have.
If you’d like to ask our breast care team, you can post directly to them here, without needing to leave the forum: Ask our Nurses your questions - Breast Cancer Now forum
Sending our warmest wishes
