Reconstruction decision

Hi ladies’ I’m in need of some opinions and experiences.I go for my appointment on th 13th of next month to discuss having my right breast reconstruction with the surgeon. Until very recent I was 100% sure I wanted it done. However recently while having my Pertuzumab and Herceptin treatment I sat next to a lady and some how we started talking about reconstruction and she said she wouldn’t go for it because she thinks that it causes the cancer to spread further. At the moment I am NED and have been for the past 17 months after finishing chemo. I am now wondering do I really want to take the risk. My onc said there  is no evidence to to say that opening someone up causes the cancer to spread and there are lots of ladies with stage 4 that have reconstruction successfully.Advice needed ladies. Do I listen to my onc who I have always trusted or the lady at the hospital who was actually very convincing. Thanks in advance ladies x

Sorry ladies I’ve posted in the wrong section but not sure how to move it.x

Hi Never bothered with reconstruction ,infact I did contemplate having the other breast removed but just leaving be xx

Hi. I’m not any kind of expert, although I am likely to need a mx unless scans later this month show it has already spread elsewhere - and I am certain I’d want a reconstruction. But I think I would take the onc’s advice which is presumably based on statistics and facts rather than the lady’s advice, which could be just based on anecdotal evidence. Tough one though.
Good luck!

Listen to your oncologist. It is easy to listen and take on board what others say…Is there proof I wonder, from this lady?all the best, you are feeling vulnerable.

I just wanted to echo everyone’s advice to follow the advice of your oncologist and Breast surgeon. They would tell you if there were any risks. I have heard all sorts of things in waiting rooms few of which would get published in creditable medical journals.
All the very best to you…
