Hello everyone - am sure this question has been asked a thousand times on here before but I am asking it again- what reconstruction - if any - did you go for and how was it/is it for you? Found out yesterday I will need to have a mascetomy - I have multi focal grade 2 invasive ductal cancer ER + and HER 2 -. Really don’t know about reconstruction or not and would love to hear your experiences and recovery stories. Have an appointment with the surgeon later so will hear what she says but would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance to you all - this forum has been a lifeline these last few weeks ![]()
Hi I had the same type as you had a single mastectomy beginning of October and have recovered well I went for an implant, I currently have an expander which I’ve started to get filled every two weeks my new boob is great when I have a bra on you wouldn’t know… obviously different story when I look in the mirror but I’m getting used to it. I opted for implant as it was shortest recovery I believe and I have kids so didn’t want to be struggling for too long post op, first two weeks were the hardest but honestly we’re fine I just kept topped up on pain meds I didn’t take any after about day 10/11 xx
Hi, your consultant will also help you the options that will be suitable for you., I had multi focal LBC and as I had big boobs and at the time my BMI was high the only option available to me was a procedure called Goldilocks where they use the skin left from mastectomy to make a boob shape along with a reduction on the other side for symmetry. It isn’t done very often but I was extremely lucky in the care I received from My breast surgeon and plastic surgeon who did my surgery together and were absolutely amazing and the results are fab, apart from no nipple on one side you wouldn’t know. It’s a lot to take in at the stage you are at so take your time and ask lots of questions. If it had not been for those 2 amazing women I would have wanted a double mastectomy and stayed flat which in hindsight would not have been the best decision for me xxx
This all sounds really positive and I am so pleased you got the option that was right for you
how are you doing now? Hope all is good and thank you so much for replying xx
Thanks so much for replying. My surgeon has suggested an implant would be best for me too. How is your recovery going? I have three children and my husband works away a lot so am wondering how long it will be before I can do normal things like making their tea and bed time and things?
Hi, recovery has been fine I’m now 8 weeks post op I also have children I probably only had a week where I would have struggled to do day to day tasks was out walking withing a couple of days but had limited movement on the operated side, from week two onwards I could do cooking washing etc I just tended to use the other side more the main thing I had was fatigue I’d get tired really easy after doing small tasks like cleaning etc but it was all way better than I expected it to be I had full node clearance and I think that’s what caused the most discomfort came from x
Hello and thank you so much for getting back to me- this is so helpful. Hope your recovery continues to go well and the rest of your treatment xxxx
