Reconstruction Using Braxon (Pig Tissue) for muscle sparing

Hi Guys,

I have just had a mastectomy of my right breast due to DCIS, my surgeon offered a new technique called Braxon, this uses tissue from pigs (although so processed its not really got much pig left in it) to build a new hammock for the implant, instead of taking a mucscle from another part of your body.  I am now 3 days post surgery, so still sore and swollen but i’m hoping all goes to plan.  Is there anyone else that has had this surgery or is being offered the chance to try it out ???

Hi Tracy, yes I had this immediate recon last September. Result was good. Unfortunately for me I got several infections due to chemo and my wound didn’t heal so I had to have it removed in December.

I had another recon with expander implant in may after chemo and that is fine even after 15 rads in July.

Good luck

Is there any chance we can have a chat, have been through the same procedure and would love to know how you are getting on? Fiona64

Hi, I had this procedure almost five and a half weeks ago, right side. I’m so scared to tempt fate but I can’t believe that it’s been so trouble free so far. I’ve even managed to lie on the right side in bed for the first time these last few days. The site where the drains where has been far more irritating and sore than the new foob (great word), Dr says I have healed really well which I put down to eating lots of salmon and spinach (I expect I’ll go off those two foods after all this as I’ll always associate them with BC) but I’m sure is really just luck.

I would much rather have my old one back but I’ve not found it nearly as traumatic as I expected and now that the swelling is subsiding they don’t look too mismatched at all.

Good luck everyone.

I had this surgery Monday and sitting here now with two drains. They wanted to remove one before I came home but it keeps filling up. I don’t feel as bad as I thought I would but I was quite sire underneath new boob this morning. It feels like a cement boob atm but I’m told this will all sort itself out in time. I’m preying they don’t find anything more awful and this is me over the worse. I’ve already had lumpectomy and lymphnodes removed. Clear margins on invasive cancer. Clear nodes and widespread dcis remained. I just hope I keep healing and I don’t lose the implant

Hi ladies, thanks so much for your feedback, Its great to hear that you are all getting on ok.  Well I know that I said I was doing really well, so well in fact I stopped taking my pain killers 4 days after surgery,  BIG MISTAKE !!!  I was back in hospital for 2 days.  OMG the pain and swelling was horrendous, I actually thought my Foob ( I thought I’d adopt that name also) was going to explode !!  I had IV antibiotics for 2 days and built up the pain relief again, I’m back home again now and have my Ibuprofen and Paracetamol by my side.  I have been back to clinic today and the scaring is amazing, its just so smooth,so thats looking positive.  Unfortunately the results on the breast tissue sent away was not back as yet, so dont know whether there has been any spread, Need to go back on Monday for these results now,  ggrrrrrrr !!!   Fiona - I live in a little place called Eccles in Manchester, might be difficult to meet for coffee, ha ha.

Hi Tracy, so sorry for your shocking results. I had mx in September 14. I had 2 tumours one was 8x7cm the other 2cm. I had 27 lymoh nodes removed and 26 tested positive for cancer! I thought this was unremarkable and only realised it wasn’t through this website.

I had 6 months of chemo ending in April and 15 sessions of rads. Also had immediate recon, and further recon op in may.

It’s tough, but a year in Im over the worst. Still v tired. I managed to continue yogs throughout treatment and have stepped up exercise since April.
