Reconstruction?
Reconstruction? Have any of you guys had reconstruction?
Because of the genetic link and the amount of DCIS found in my histology, I have elected to have my other breast removed and with that comes the offer of reconstruction.
I’m intrigued to find if any other men have had resonstruction and if they are happy with the results?
Any advice gratefully received.
Regards
Brian
Reconstruction Hi Brian
When I had my Mastectomy last year I was offered reconstruction.
They told me that a muscle from my back would be used to replace the Breast tissue removed.
After careful consideration I declined.
I personally didn’t want to go through a longer operation and a longer recovery period.
I also felt that for me the look of my chest wouldn’t be too different after my Mastectomy anyway.
I am pleased with the way my chest looks now, I have a really neat scar and the other side doesn’t stick out much more anyway.
Whatever you decide, I hope all goes well.
All the best.
Stuart.
reconstruction Hi Brian
I had a bilateral mastectomy and that was at a time when the thought of men asking for reconstruction was surprising! Anyway, things have changed and that’s good. Reconstruction is now usually offered to men as well.
I did manage to get to a plastic surgeon and she is wonderful. She made two nice new nipples just from tattooing. She said I didn’t need the “sticky out” bits! The effect is truly wonderful and I’ll be ever grateful to her for doing it for me. In fact , I saw her on Monday for my annual appointment and I am now discharged and only need to contact her when I feel the tattoos are fading. They use natural dyes you see and they do fade.
I think you should get it done - go for it. let us know how you get on.
Best wishes
Bill
Thanks for the advice fellas Its an interesting topic and I have to say that I’m more inclined not have my breasts rebuilt as such, but I am keen to retain symmetry.
The surgeon has offered to save the nipple, which would require rebuild on the other side. Nipple replication is not something I would relish and consequently will not take up this offer.
I had more or less made my mind up anyway and I will have my right breast away (nipple and all) and have a couple of nipples tattooed as you suggest Bill.
Many thanks
Brian
