Hi - I guess that the answer to this question will be that it is different for everybody but when do you start to feel “better” after finishing chemo treatment? I have had surgery and then 8 sessions of FEC-T - my last one was on 16 May. I felt like I was coming up for air a little bit after about 2.5 weeks but have definitely slumped again - I’ve got oral thrush yet again and my arms and legs feel more achey than ever.
I wasn’t expecting to bounce back to normal (whatever that is) quickly after chemo but this is exhausting…and I’ve got radiotherapy still to come.
All I can say is it takes time and you must allow yourself this time to reach a new “normal” - as you say, whatever that may be! - Again, we’re all individuals and the time it takes will be personal to you. Your body has and continues to go through massive changes. Radiotherapy treatment in itself is a breeze compared to chemotherapy but the long term effects are still affecting me 2 years on. You will get the other side of treatment and you will find that new normal but don’t rush it…
Take care and I hope the radiotherapy goes well for you. x
Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit rough after the chemo. I just wanted to echo what Jay said and what you already seem to know - that it is variable and can take time. I was fine after tge FEC but that bleeding T treatment was a bit wearing. For me, it was after finishing T, I looked and felt my worse. Pains in thighs, could not bend legs, excrutiating sore toes, rubbish breathing, blotched areas on faces and eyebrow areas…but at least my head hair was making advances. I felt very frustrated but just tried to rest when needed, stuck to healthy diet, tried to keep as active as I could and tried to plan some positive future goals. Sometimes, you just can’t rush these things. All the very best to you for your continuing treatment.
