14 years down the line and no recurrence. I’ve had bilateral mastectomies and reconstructions. Unfortunately one of the implants has ruptured and when I went for the MRI scan it has picked up lymph nodes in the axilla on the side I had the breast cancer.
I’m waiting for an ultrasound on these on Wednesday and worried sick after all this time the cancer is back?!
Has anyone else had a recurrence after so long? I know there could be a logical explanation but can’t help worrying. I work as a Specialist nurse in palliative care therefore having knowledge about these things sends your mind racing!
Hello Elpedley
Welcome to the forum …a place you thought u would never have to visit again !
Mine came back after 11 years and I can quite honestly say I didn’t see that coming. When I hit 5 years from primary …I was discharged from hospital system …then I hit ten years …retired and was ready to enjoy life …moved house and started getting hip pain …dx by gp with arthritus/ sciatica but then the scan showed bone mets …
Hopefully …until the scan results there is nothing you can do but try not to worry too much but do let us know how things go.
Xx
Hi Carolyn
I’m at the ‘one stop breast clinic’ Wednesday morning and believe they give you the results there and then.
I’m trying to remain positive. My original bc was only grade 1 and all lymph glands were negative of any cancer so there is a chance the lymph nodes are enlarged due to the implant rupture?!
I’ll let you know how I get on
Xx
It happens, I was 17 years and now it’s in my bones. Didn’t bother with implants only cos I was a 26 yr old male lol.
Good luck and don’t worry about it
yes I was 13 years post opp after stage three and gland clearance plus mastectomy then out of the blue lung mets also HER2 now and wasnt back in 2004. keep going xx
Hello jcempire
Welcome to the forum …sorry not replied before …I must confess that I always forget that men also get bc and I do feel for you as everything is really centred around us ladies! !
But u have had a long remission too and hopefully the treatment will keep the little blighters in the bones for years to come xx
Hello oggy
Welcome to the forum …wow the blighters certainly caught us out after so many clear years but cancer is clever and finds ways to rock our life !!
As your cancer is now her2 …you have the option of herceptin so hopefully it will do its job well for you …there are superb results here on other threads with it …
Hugs xxx
Hello all,
My cancer reappeared after 20 years - two and a half years ago. It was in my peritoneum and multiple bony metasteses. It must have been lurking for years!

Hi , mine return 10 years after my primary . I was very surprised as I felt healthier I have in years! My secondary in my left pelvic bone and tumour in my right lung . I am on maintenance treatment at the moment for as long as it works .
Hi all,
glad to say the enlarged lymph nodes were just full of silicone from the ruptured implant!
Just waiting for a date for the implant changing
thanks for all your support
