Red water in pot after stools

On a paclitaxel regimen as of now but last two days, have been seeing some red water in the pot after passing stools. Not sure when to approach the emergency. Although it could very well be beets, that I have been having in form a juice throughout the chemotherapy. This hasn’t happened before though, so unable to decide what to do. Have another taxol infusion planned for tomorrow, don’t want to further reduce dose as it has already been done last week because of nose bleeds etc.

Hi sms

Thanks for posting.

It’s understandable that you’re concerned about the red colour you’ve seen in the toilet after passing stools. As this is something new, which hasn’t happened before, we would always suggest you contact your treatment team to let them know so they can assess you. As you are currently having chemotherapy you could contact your treatment or chemotherapy team or use the urgent contact details you will have been given.

There are a number of reasons why you may be experiencing this, and it may not be necessary to further reduce your dose of paclitaxel, but it is important that you let your treatment team know so that they can offer advice.

Do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions.
