repeat chemotheraphy treatments

How much chemo can a women have ? Does anybody know how long it is before a second course of chemo can be administered? when my wife had triple negative breast cancer the first time, she had 3 courses of FEC,which was brilliant (the lump in her breast almost disappeared and the oncologist said that the area of the cancer would have to be ‘marked’ so they knew where it was)and then 3 courses of taxotere, which was stopped after two doses as the lump return twice the size it was before. Now it has returned in both lungs and we are distraught. We have been told it has been caught ‘early and by accident’(17mm and 13mm in lungs) but that isn’t very reassuring. We have been offered access to an immediate clinical trial,Help !

I’m hoping your query gets a response since it’s a question that’s also in my mind having had 6 FEC that worked quite well and then 3 TAX that seemed to make things worse with my secondaries (I’m ER+ but HER- - so I’m now moving onto Xeloda and hoping… my understanding is that our bodies do become more resistant to each chemo even though they are different so the impact becomes less as time goes on. I’ve also been moved onto a research trial so might have Xeloda with another drug if I’m on that arm of the trial. Thinking of you as you work through things and hoping others have some more scientific answers to our situation - these forums are usually brilliant for this sort of info.

cant answer your question but am interested in knowing too… you have made me think too because i had 3 fec then after first tax developed local recurrence only just confirmed and am awaiting scans now and feel unwell too so i hope there is a chance of more treatment if needed seems the chemo didnt work for me and ha,d high hopes i too am triple neg did they not discuss further treatments with you or have you got to go back good luck to your wife x

I have asked on a triple/neg/secondaries thread if the ladies on there would respond to you.

To Francesw,Fairyqueen and Chocciemuffin,Thanks for your comments and help,i learn more from you ladies than i would ever learn from the NHS ! We are going to see a professor tomorrow so we will hopeful learn more then.I am hearing alot of disturbing news about these chemo trials which doesn’t fill me with any confidence.Best wishes to you all.
