Results grade 2 to 3

I have just found out my tumour has been upgraded from grade 2 to 3 and I have gone into such a state of fear. Has this happened to anyone else ? I am frantucally trying to find out what this means in terms of survival . I am petrified of chemo which I am now thinking will be happening.

Hi Kim,

Sorr to hear that and I know it must have come as a huge shock. I’m sure other Grade 3 ladies will be along shortly to reassure you and share their experiences.

Your results were really quick! I had my lumpectomy/SNB last Wednesday and had a outpatient appointment at the clinic on Thursday this week. BN phoned (not mine) to say the surgeon now wants to see me on Wed in the ward! It’s sent me into a blind panic! Left two messages for my own BN but, unsurprisingly, she hasn’t returned my calls.

I’m not expecting good news. My surgeon came to see me in the ward shortly after my op, good news is that it is not hormone receptive BUT she said they want me to have Chemo.

Guess I’ll just to have to sit and panic until Wednesday now until I hear the full story.

As soon as they told me “it’s cancer”, my immediate reply was “I’m not having chemo” so she knows how scared and reluctant I am.

Best Wishes

Hi Kim.  I know just how you feel. Horrific isn’t it? I was grade 2 at biopsy then 3 after surgery.  I would say it was the worst day of the whole thing, bar the initial diagnosis.  You need to remember it is just one risk factor. What stage is it, how big, are your nodes clear, are you HER2+ or ER+ for example?  Each factor is just used to build a general picture of your risk profile so they can recommend suitable treatment.  There are very effective treatments now. I was told chemo & radio are the most effective on grade 3, because they work on active cells & more grade 3 cells are dividing at any moment in time. I know a grade 3, HER+ve lady with lymph node spread who is 10 years post treatment & absolutely fine.  It is scary, but it is not a death sentence & there is plenty you can do to improve your chances.  I would recommend Anticancer by Servan Schrieber as a good starting place.  I felt with HER & grade 3 I needed to do a bit more to complement what the medical team were doing. It made me feel a bit more in control too. All the best with your treatment xxxxx

I have had a quick pathology result because my husband knows the pathologist which is lucky I still have not had the lymph results yet. My lump had grown from 11mm to 14mm since biopsy, clear margins. I have not had my appointment through yet, but been looking at the percentages for chemo at 5 year and 10. Charys are you going to have chemo? How big was your lump ?

Hazel i will be thinking of you for your appointment . I think the waiting is the worst time .
