Return to work nightmare

Glad you managed to get some perspective from someone who witnessed the comment @tommykye. Hopefully you won’t have to hear any more of them and can just crack on with your work days like everyone else. x

I was appalled by that insensitive comment. It’s difficult enough going through treatment and living with a diagnosis as it is. ( I’m stage 4) .

Don’t get angry and waste your time on such an idiot ..just report it to your union and/ or personal management team if you have one. Let them speak to the person…it will be more effective and maybe you’ll get an apology.

However, well done on going back to work. I felt extremely tired when I returned FT after my first diagnosis 27 years ago and had to learn to pace myself.

Hello, you are protected under Under the Equality Act 2010, a breast cancer diagnosis is legally classified as a disability. This grants you protection against workplace discrimination. Employers must provide reasonable adjustments to support you. Speak to your manager or HR . Any members of staff should respect you how the hell would they feel if thus happened to a family member, Take care big hugs xxx

They need to be ‘called-'out”. Totally unacceptable these days. Unless these attitudes/ uninformed opinions are challenged, they continue to be the norm! Hugs to you.

You are absolutely within your rights to feel the way you do … very hurtful comments.

I think that some people are clueless as to how to offer helpful support and they use humour inappropriately. They think they are making light of a situation which makes it easier for them but they don’t realise this is not what we want to hear …

Keep on being you, know that you’re not alone and be proud of how far you’ve come on this very personal journey

I know I’m a little late to the party and a week or so has passed but you’re definitely not being over-sensitive. There’s a huge difference between light-hearted banter with people you know and trust, and someone making an inappropriate comment about your body, especially after everything you’ve been through.

You’ve had cancer, multiple surgeries, months of recovery, and you’ve returned to a physically demanding job. Your reconstruction was part of your treatment, not something for people to joke about or make degrading comments about even when it’s disguised as banter . It’s completely understandable that this comment upset you.

Trust your feelings. If it made you feel embarrassed and uncomfortable, then that’s valid. Hopefully your colleague simply didn’t think before speaking, but that doesn’t make it okay.If anything further is said, If you feel able, it might be worth telling them their comment crossed a line, or speaking to your manager if you don’t feel comfortable addressing it yourself.

Sending you a big hug, and well done on getting back to work after everything you’ve been through , especially a physical job like yours :growing_heart:
